Spotlight Session with Mary Walsh
The Cavendish Literary Festival’s featured Spotlight Session brings together two remarkable storytellers for an unforgettable evening of conversation, laughter, and literary insight.
The event opens with Prince Edward Island author Katie Mac, recipient of an Island Literary Award for her short story ‘The Key to Wednesdays’ and her debut noir novel Ken’s Corner. In conversation with Teresa Wright, she will discuss her newest novel, Dunk River Murders, a mystery that follows Maggie, a woman fleeing career burnout in search of solitude and fly fishing, only to discover that dead bodies have a habit of inconveniently appearing in her river.
The spotlight then turns to Canadian icon Mary Walsh. Actor, comedian, writer, activist, and creator of This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Walsh has spent decades making Canadians laugh while challenging them to think differently about the world around them. In conversation with Jenna Harvey, she will discuss her new memoir, Brassy Bit of Aging Crumpet: A Memoir in Pieces, a disarmingly vulnerable and wickedly hilarious collection of essays reflecting on her Newfoundland upbringing, behind-the-scenes stories from a groundbreaking career in television, her journey through addiction, and the unexpected joys of growing older. Filled with Walsh’s trademark wit, candour, and irrepressible spirit, this conversation offers an opportunity to hear one of Canada’s most beloved cultural figures share the stories behind a remarkable life and career.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, meet the authors, and have books signed following the event.
