Mallory Johnson featuring Scott Mackay – Under the Spire Music Festival

Mallory Johnson is a 3 x East Coast Music Award winner, CCMA nominated and 2022 top 10 artist for the prestigious SiriusXM Top of the Country competition. It’s no wonder that her recent debut album, “Surprise Party” soared to #2 on the iTunes country charts on its release in October and surpassed 100K streams in just 3 weeks.
Her recent billboard-charting single “Married” follows a collaboration with West Coast duo Twin Kennedy on their shared single “Wise Woman,” which caught the attention of media such as CBC, CTV, CMT and The Bluegrass Situation, with Billboard calling it: “[A] gorgeous tale of vulnerability that strikes just the right chord.” Coinciding with the release, Mallory and Twin Kennedy shared a powerful music video directed by Cecil Johnson which took home Music Video of the Year at the 2021 MusicNL Awards as well as Fans’ Choice Video of the Year at the 2022 East Coast Music Awards.

From the sounds of slapback echo, twangy Telecasters and swooning pedal steel, it’s clear that Scott MacKay has an affinity for country music of the 1950s and ‘60s. But the singer/songwriter from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island also has a sharp wit that shines through on the 10 original songs that comprise his latest ECMA winning album Stupid Cupid, a collection that offers a fresh, modern take on classic country.
His catalogue has over one million streams thanks to the track “Where the Enemy Sleeps” from MacKay’s album Twin which was used as the theme song for the true crime podcasts Over My Dead Body, and Joe Exotic: Tiger King, the latter inspiring the hit Netflix show Tiger King.
MacKay has also been honoured in his former home base of Calgary with multiple Calgary Music Award nominations and has fared well in CBC’s Searchlight and other international songwriting competitions.
Now with ECMA winning Stupid Cupid, Scott MacKay is ready to take country music back to the future, and place himself squarely in the conversation about Canadian roots music artists to keep a close eye on.
