Along The Shore Food Hike

Participants will start with a hearty breakfast at Fisherman’s Wharf in North Rustico. Park your vehicle behind the restaurant where there is ample parking. Fisherman’s Wharf will provide, coffee, tea and a tasty egg, ham and cheese breakfast sandwich while the Preserve Company will be on site with their Preserve Company Granola: a healthy blend of oats, coconut, almonds, dried cranberries & raisins, lightly toasted with Island honey served with yogurt. Then enjoy a flat terrain hike along the North Rustico Boardwalk with magnificent views of the harbour. Turn into the path to the PEI National Park to the Gulf Shore Parkway. Head west along the paved hiking trail of the PEI National Park and across Mackenzie’s Brook. Watch some of those hills. Take note of the power and beauty of the sea which has carved the red cliff formations. If you are lucky, you will see fishers pulling their traps and a fresh lobster for your dinner tonight. A comfort break will be provided about halfway at Cape Turner where you can enjoy a chocolate dipped oatcake from Jane and Sue Chocolates and entertainment by the talented Olivia Blacquiere.  Relax for a bit before continuing.

The hike ends after you cross the Lake of Shining Waters and find a tent within a few meters of famous Cavendish Beach. Enjoy the entertainment and lunch provided by some of the area’s finest food and beverage providers at the World-Famous Cavendish Beach. Chef Allan Williams from Discover Culinary will be serving up a delicious Tomato and Roasted Onion Soup made with Sweet Tomatoes, Roasted Onions, Island Cream, Basil Scented Goat Cheese, and Balsamic. Chef Robert Pendergast will serve up a fancy grilled cheese with pulled pork on his special bread while Chef Emily Wells of the Mill in New Glasgow will provide a Mediterranean Barley Salad – Speerville Organic Barley with red onions, roasted red peppers, local cherry tomatoes, cucumbers & Feta cheese.  Dressed with an herb vinaigrette.

Your sweet ending will come from Chez Yvonne restaurant celebrating 54 years of great food. We won’t leave you dry as the PEI Brewing Company will have beer samples, Red Island Cider will have a Seasonal Surprise and Deep Roots Distillery will have two special cocktails to try: Island Mule – Fresh ginger, mint, and lime, this is our full-flavoured take on the traditional Moscow Mule or Apple Pie Moonshine – PEI apples, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves, this cocktail is like an apple pie in a glass!

Entertainment will be provided by Mike Stratton. Alas, we will have to take you away on the bus back to your vehicle. This hike will take your breath away so take your camera!
